Thirteen out of the twenty-three beaches that line Bournemouth and Christchurch Bays are in Bournemouth town. With the exception of Hengistbury Head Beach all of the beaches in Bournemouth are to a greater or lesser extent developed. The two most prominent beach areas are ether side of Bournemouth Pier. Due to their proximity to the town centre these two beaches bear the brunt of visitor numbers. They are heavily used.
It is worth noting that neither of these two beaches have a Blue Flag award. I would suspect that this is simply down to the overwhelming task of keeping them spotlessly clean.
Generally the council do a good job cleaning the beaches but thee have been times when due to pressure of numbers (and irresponsible visitors leaving rubbish ion the beach) they have been overwhelmed by the task. Bank holidays seem to be the worst.
There are 5 Blue Flag beaches in Bournemouth and three that allow dogs on the beach all year round.
